FAQs

Q) Do I have to floss every day? Is it really that important?

A) It certainly is. Flossing loosens food particles, plaque, and tartar trapped between teeth that your toothbrush can’t reach. These pesky oral inhabitants can irritate gums, cause gum disease, and promote cavities, as well as cause bad breath. For advice on flossing effectively, we will gladly teach you how to make your daily oral care easier.

Q) What is an implant and how long do they last?

A) Dental implants are a safe alternative to bridges, partials, or full dentures and can even be used to stabilize these restorations in the even that you need to replace several teeth at once. They look, feel, and function like natural teeth because of a titanium anchor attached to the jawbone. Once the implants are secured, Dr. Lawton will attach a handcrafted, permanent crown to each post. The restorations will match your natural teeth and blend seamlessly with your smile. The life of the implant depends on your age, oral status, and personal hygiene. With proper maintenance, they last most people a lifetime.

Q) I do not like drills. Are there any other options?

A) We offer air abrasion, an alternative to the traditional dental drill. With air abrasion, a stream of air and tiny abrasive particles whisk away decay. Because the tool emits no vibration, heat, or noise, the factors that cause pain associated with a dental drill, most patients don't even need anesthetic.

Q) What is a digital X-ray, and how is it different from traditional X-rays?

A) When compared to traditional radiography, digital X-rays emit 80% less radiation. Detailed images are immediately available for view on a chairside monitor in the operatory. Dr. Lawton can transfer digital X-rays and photographs quickly via the Internet to insurance companies and specialists, as well. Digital X-rays require no hazardous developing chemicals, so they're earth friendly!
